Camping Holiday Tips For The Beginnner

With forethought and a little imagination your camping trip can be very enjoyable and a bit of an adventure. Before I go off on holiday I always have a practice in my garden and make sure I can remember how to put my tent up. When my tent is erected this also gives me the chance to check that all the pieces are there and in good working order and I can also make sure my tent is waterproof. If I have bought a new tent then this will give me the chance to familiarise myself with it before I venture out. Just think how embarrassed I would feel if I arrived at my beautiful destination and didn’t know how to assemble my holiday accommodation!   When I have chosen my destination and found my camping site I think facilities, do I want to have them readily available or do I want to ‘rough it’. If I were a happy hiker and carrying my tent and equipment in a rucksack then depending on where I stopped for the night I may have to forgo some of life’s little creature comforts. I would also be limited to how much I can physically carry so I would have to remember to take this into account when packing.   If I were travelling by car or van then obviously I can take more equipment and can travel further afield. There are many organised camping sites available world-wide. They vary from basic sites with water and toilet facilities to ones that also include a swimming pool, shops, restaurants and entertainment. Costs will vary immensely so I always weigh up my options before I decide. Do I want peace and quiet and open spaces, basic facilities or a more sociable and busy holiday full of entertainment, the choice is mine.   I really do think it is a good idea to make a list before I embark on any trip. For camping you really do need to remember the basics. A drinking vessel, water, plate, cutlery, pot for cooking and heating water in, a torch and of course a warm sleeping bag are a definite must as is the one thing most people forget – a can opener! On a personal level, I always think it is also a good idea to take along my own toilet roll. A camping bed or blow up bed are also a must so that I can hopefully have a good nights sleep off the lumpy ground. I also take warm clothes even if I am travelling in the summer as night time can be decidedly chilly in a tent.   Normally when camping I cater for myself so I obviously will need some sort of cooker. I could by a small gas or petrol stove and can choose between single ringed stoves or larger double ringed cookers. It may take skill and ingenuity to cook a three course meal on them but they will do the job of heating or cooking my basic food. Opting for nostalgia and lighting a fire is always a last resort as my surroundings might be dry and a spark could easily set dry undergrowth alight. Apart from the safety aspect fuel would have to be collected for the fire, not easy if there are no old branches or pieces of wood in the near vicinity.   Careful thought goes into what food to take. If I only have one cooking ring then there is no point in taking food which needs to be oven cooked! Unless I can buy fresh food daily then tinned food is ideal as I won’t have a fridge to keep perishable food in.   Most importantly remember to do as I do and leave my camping site as I would wish to find it, clean and tidy, I remove all my rubbish and leave it looking as if I was never there.

Camping Furniture You Should Have For Your Next Camping Trip

Camping conjures up images of campfires, tents, sleeping bags and generally roughing it. However, now there are so many pieces of furniture available for use in camping, you can deck out your campsite to look almost as good as your home. There are lounge chairs available, ottomans, tables and lamps to recreate a living area around a campfire. Portable kitchen areas will provide preparation areas and grills for a versatile dining experience. Your tent no longer has to consist of a sleeping bag on the hard ground but can include beds, tables and lamps.   Keep in mind that larger pieces of furniture are difficult to transport and may be heavy or bulky so these items are best used in stationary camp sites. If you will be wandering off to camp at a site where you will have to carry your equipment long distances, these items may not be ideal. However, if you have a campsite area that also accommodates your vehicle and you plan to return to the campsite each day, they are perfect for creating a comfortable and relaxing environment.   Make sure you have enough room however you are traveling to transport items. If you have a recreational vehicle, truck or SUV, they provide ample area to store foldable or collapsible furniture along with your equipment and supplies. If you only have a small car, however, you may not be able to pack all the furniture items and still have room for necessary equipment and yourselves.   Cots, hammocks, inflatable beds and sleeping mats are great pieces of furniture for use in a tent. They provide maximum comfort while raising you from the hard ground. This can help in keeping you dry in rainy climates and warm if it is colder. Adding a small, collapsible table will allow you to set a lamp for reading and keeping water or other supplies. Lamps can be battery or gas powered and they are usually small and easily portable.   There are many varieties of chairs and lounges available. These pieces of furniture are either collapsible or inflatable for easy, compact storage. You can get these pieces in oversized models for maximum comfort and kick your feet up on an ottoman or attached foot rest.   Cooking and dining is no longer an issue with the use of folding kitchenettes. These are great ways to provide food preparation areas. They can attach to a grill or heating element to prepare your day’s catch of fish or prepare your favorite camping recipes. Tables and chairs are available and there are even portable picnic tables. You can easily gather the family around for a good meal.   With all the available camping furniture available, you can now camp in luxury. Look for camping furniture online or at local sporting goods stores. Make sure you have enough space to transport all these items. They usually come in collapsible models for convenient and compact storage but they will still take up a bit of room. Have fun on your next camping adventure by staying in style and comfort.

Going Camping? How to Choose The Right Backpack

Title:     Word Count: 854   Summary: So, you have decided to go camping. Well, good for you. However, have you got the necessary camping gear sorted out; especially the backpack. Its one the most important components of the camping gear and you have to make the right choice in this regard or you are done for.     Keywords: camping tents backpacks     Article Body: So, you have decided to go camping. Well, good for you. However, have you got the necessary camping gear sorted out; especially the backpack. Its one the most important components of the camping gear and you have to make the right choice in this regard or you are done for.   Importance of choosing the right backpack   A person who is not all that experienced with the concept of camping or hiking might not give the backpack its due importance, and might just have a feeling that all backpacks are the same. But such is not the case, just ask an experienced camper.   There have been many cases wherein, instead of enjoying a nice little camping trip, people have come home, suffering from a back injury; resultant of a faulty backpack. There are many more unpleasant experiences that are a result of not choosing the right camping bag, but we won’t delve into it.   How to choose?   The style of hiking   A large part of choosing the right backpack is dependant of the kind of outing that you have lined up. This means that whether you are going to hike for an extended number of days, or just a few days.   There is a backpack available for every requirement, and the storage capacity of the backpack is dictated by the number of days, that you are going to use it for.   The type of frame   Depending on the terrain of the camping trip, weather that you might encounter, and various other factors, you must choose the frame of the backpack. They come in two types:   Internal-frame packs: They have design that makes for easy maneuverability, stability, flexibility. Moreover, backpacks that are made from this type of frame fit closely and must be chosen if you are going camping on a terrain that is uneven.   Such backpacks are great to use, while climbing, scrambling, or even on snow bound slopes.   External-frame packs: If you are traveling on established trails, and aim to carry a heavy load, then backpacks that have an external frame, are the right choice for you.   They make for a comfortable carrying of heavy loads, and also have a larger storage capacity. Moreover, they are noted for their air circulation advantage and are quite cool to carry. The great thing about them is that they are not too expensive.   The storage capacity   This is one of the most important considerations before choosing any backpack. List out all the gear that you are going to need to take with you, and then work out the details with regards to space.   Storage capacity needs vary from one individual to another and from one camping trip to another. If it’s a long camping trip then, a storage capacity of about 5000+ cubic inches would be a standard requirement   On the other hand if your camping trip is short, then you can choose backpacks that give you around 3,000 to 5,000 cubic inches of space. For day long camping trips even 2,500 cubic inches of space will do.   The comfort factor   Be it a camping trip of any length of time; comfort must be the overriding factor that must dictate your choice of backpack.   Some of the accoutrements of the backpack, which make for comfort, are:   > Suspension system   The suspension system of a backpack is important, and is what you must be looking for while checking out the shoulder straps of the pack. The suspension systems should be adjustable in nature, and thus you should be able to customize it to your requirement.   Other suspension features are load-lift straps, cinch straps, and a sternum strap.   > Hip-belts   It’s these belts that support the major portion of the weight of the pack. When you choose a backpack make sure that it’s padded and shaped to perfection.   > Comfort factor in internal-frame packs   Internal frame backpacks have something called the lumber pad that helps in air circulation. Moreover, there is also the presence of a frame-sheet, which helps keep your back safe from the poking of sharp objects   Extra features   Try going for backpacks that promise something extra or offer you some extra add-ons. These add-ons could be in the form of rain covers, accessory pockets, stuff sacks and even trekking poles.   Price   Some backpacks are ridiculously expensive, while others are ridiculously cheap. It will be up to you to make the distinction between something that will give you value for your money, and something that will just be a futile investment.   If you are thinking about going for regular camping trips then it does make sense to buy something that will survive for a good length of time. Such backpacks don’t come cheap, but are worth every penny you invest in them.   On the other hand, if you are planning to go for camping trips on an off and on basis then it’s not a good idea to buy expensive, and advanced backpacks. Go for the affordable variety, but those which give some kind of assurance about quality.   Choose your backpack with due care. It could mean the difference between a happy camping trip and a disappointing one.

Consider Summer Temperature When You Go Camping In Summer

Moving outdoors and relishing nature is one of the great gifts of camping. Venturing out into the outdoors and learning how to endure it is again among the potential drawbacks of camping.   While it is a fun that your strength is put to test in camping, but to get windblown, cold, and wet is not so at all. To plan ahead on finding out that the weather report is good at the selected location is wise enough, but weather in wild zones is susceptible to quick change. Moreover, in comparison to urban areas such changes can be more severe. In hilly areas that provide many campsites, the difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures is wider. Do not forget dog supplies you will need for camping Collapsible Silicone Expandable Bowl Large 26 Foot Reflective Retractable Leash Biodegradable Dog Waste Bags Eco Friendly   A clock of the type that can adjust with indoor or outdoor temperatures, in the tent or outside, should come along with you. Perhaps it would be more advisable to connect with one of the more extensive weather stations immediately. Note carefully their reports on rainfall, a reliable indicator like air pressure, temperature, humidity and some such things that have impact on your plans on the campsite. Such sets are portable and accurate, while the power they get from AA batteries.   Even though summer camping is more common, the weather factor still you cannot ignore. In many camping sites highest temperatures can reach 90s and may even go beyond that in July-August while at night they can drop down to 50s.   Since hiking is a common activity during camping, high daytime temperatures cause worries for hikers. You would need extra minerals and water, and if you take along a sports drink low in sugar content that would be helpful. You must take rest for five minutes each hour. If your dresses are in layers you can take off the clothing when temperature is high and still you can feel comfortable when the temperature drops down.   Better not move out without shirt on unless it is an open area, and even in such areas it would be advisable often to have the shirt on. It is because toxic plants, scrapes from bushes or trees or rocks make you more prone in the outdoors to quick septic. In high altitudes excessive UV exposure is a more serious threat. It is advisable that you use sunscreen on exposed skin areas and restrict to the minimum such areas.   For those who relish snow and colder temperatures, winter camping, less common though, can give them immense delight. Since deer, moose and other animals trek into lower altitudes then in search of sufficient food, chances are brighter that you would view wildlife. Since bear sightings are rare it would be a great experience to have that. To see a bear may not sound something dangerous, though the reality may be otherwise. Dangerous they can be and moreover the grizzlies view people not as playmates, but as food.   A good item that should accompany you is thermal underwear and socks of the kind that soaks up sweat yet at the same time lets in some air through the material. More comfort you would get thereby since in colder weather temperature control is of utmost importance. Not only that frostbite is really a dangerous possibility but often the damage it inflicts upon nerves and tissue is of permanent nature.   On frozen lakes, ponds and streams better not walk if your winter camping trips are scheduled in winter. It is because the ice is generally only a couple of inches thick, while the asymmetries in he crystalline structure of natural ice are quite abundant. Whimsical cracking at any moment is encountered frequently. It may so happen that the ice that appeared strong enough only ten minutes back would fail without any warning to bear your weight. Highly annoying it is and a potential danger too just like icy water pressed against your skin firmly.   For your selected location make advance planning for the season and the climate and a much more enjoyable camping will be your gain.

Introducing Your Kids To The Joys Of Camping

Taking your kids camping the first time can be a daunting task, if you’re not well prepared. But a well prepared camping trip with your kids can be a great joy for everyone involved. Here are a few considerations and preparations you should make before leaving home.   First of all, choose an easily accessible location. You may want to choose a camping spot that is accessible by vehicle if your kids are relatively young. If you want to hike in to the camping spot, keep the distance pretty short. Also, remember that younger kids may not be able to carry all of their gear and food in, so you’ll end up with one very heavy pack if you’re not careful.   Here are a few tips for minimizing the amount of stuff you have to take in, if you’re hiking to your camping spot.   First, choose a spot with easy access to water. That way you can take in dehydrated foods, and use the water at the camping spot to cook your food with. That will save you a lot of weight.   Also, try taking one or two larger tents to hold everyone, rather than several smaller tents.   A camp fire is another consideration. Campfires and s’mores are a must when you take your kids camping. Be sure you choose a location that allows campfires, and that has a readily available water supply to put the fire out.   When you take your kids camping, be sure that they have the same essentials that you take camping: extra clothing, a coat or rain jacket, food, water, a tent, a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, etc.   One last thing: before you go camping be sure you give your kids a few basic safety instructions, such as safety with fire, snakes, bears (if applicable), etc. Safety first!

Camping in a Tent or a Motor Home: What is Best?

Are you interested in going on a camping adventure? If you are, you are definitely not alone. In the United States, camping is often referred to as a popular pastime. One of the many reasons why camping is so popular is because of all of the choices that you have. One of the many choices that you have is deciding how you would like to camp, in a motor home or in a tent.   If this is your first or even your second time going camping, you may be unsure as to whether you should camp in a motor home or in a tent. This is a decision that many people have to make. If you would like advice on what you should do, you will want to continue reading on, as the advantages and disadvantages of both tents and motor homes are outlined below.   As for camping in a traditional tent, there are a number of benefits to doing so. One of those benefits is the cost. Tents come in all different sizes, shapes, and styles, as well as prices. Tents can also be purchased from a number of different retail stores, including those that are located both on and offline. Depending on where you look, you may be able to find a camping tent for as low as twenty or thirty dollars!   Another one of the many benefits to going camping in a traditional camping tent is the experience. Camping tents, as you likely already know, are sort of like tarps. They give you protection from the outdoors, but they still leave you feeling as if you are camping in the open night. If you are an outdoor lover or if you are truly looking to get the “camping feel,” you may want to think about camping in a traditional camping tent.   Although going camping in a traditional camping tent is nice, there are a number of downsides to doing so. One of those downsides is bad weather. For your information, a large number of camping tents are strong and waterproof, but not all are. If you are unsure as to what the weather will be like for your next camping adventure, you may want to think about purchasing a camping tent that comes highly rated and recommended. Doing so may help ensure that you don’t awake to any wet surprises.   As for camping in a motor home, you will also find that there a number of advantages and disadvantages to doing so as well. Of course, with that in mind though, you should know that you don’t actually have to buy a motor home. There are a number of individuals and companies that have motor homes available for rent. Renting a motor home, instead of buying one, is a nice, affordable way to camp in style.   If you are able to camp in a motor home, you may enjoy doing so, as many motor homes appear as if they are small apartments or small homes. Motor homes often come equipped with working bathrooms, kitchens, and televisions! This is nice if you are looking to enjoy camping, while still being able to bask in the modern luxuries of life.   As it was previously mentioned, one of the reasons why camping is so popular is because of all the choices that you have, like the choice to camp in a traditional camping tent or a motor home. The decision as to whether you want to camp in a motor home or a traditional camping tent is your decision to make, but you may want to keep the above mentioned advantages and disadvantages in mind when making your decision.
